Aspects of facial appearance such as physical attractiveness influence how we treat other people.
Dr Jones' 6 lectures on facial attractiveness and face perception outline the types of social outcomes that are influenced by physical attractiveness (e.g. our choice of romantic partner and friends), the facial characteristics that are important for attractiveness (e.g. symmetry and masculinity-femininity), the causes of individual differences in the types of faces people consider attractive (e.g. the effect of menstrual cycle phase on women's preferences for masculine and feminine faces) and the ways in which information about physical attractiveness is integrated with information from social cues that are visible in faces (e.g. gaze direction and expressions).
Each of the first 5 lectures will address a different important topic for attractiveness research and the final lecture (lecture 6) will be a summary and revision session. You can download lecture notes, overheads and suggested further reading for each of these lectures and also participate in online demonstrations of the key experiments that are discussed in each lecture.
